Georgina and I visited one of our favorite cities in the world, New

We stayed in this cool apartment on Madison and 31st. We hung out at my booth at the Photoplus trade show floor at caught up with some old friends.

I presented an impromptu seminar at the Microsoft booth for a little fun. After the first night of the trade show, a few of my fellow DWF members and myself went to a local Karaoke bar and sang till about 2:30am. It was so much fun.
We went to the Magnolia bakery for my annual taste of their sumptuous cupcakes made famous by Sex and the City. Another sporting dream of mine came true as I finally attended an American Football game, The Jets vs The Chiefs. I went with Rene, Jesh de Rox and his bother-in-law Jason from Canada. What a game! Rene taught me the rules as I soaked up the sun, ate my Cracker Jack (caramel coated popcorn with peanuts) and cheered about pretty much everything.

We then joined Georgina and Melissa and went to dinner at the famous Buddha Bar at the meat packing district.
We made the trip to Long Island for a full day seminar for PPGNY. The energy in the room suited my style of teaching perfectly with many friends made by the end of the day. To all who attended, thank you for your generous feedback and enthusiasm.
The fire brigade stopped outside our apartment. Melissa and Georgina were quite intrigued...

I decided that my first multi day workshop that I would attend be with none other than arguably the most famous and successful Wedding photographer in the world, Denis Reggie. I know what you are thinking. Our styles couldn’t be more different and I teach workshops myself so why attend? The day you believe you know everything, you know absolutely nothing. As a 15 year veteran of the industry I didn’t expect to learn anything new technically or much about shooting in mainly photojournalistic style but what I did want to know is what his demographic wants and what their expectations are. He is a master of understanding his demographic and is an incredible businessman. His on/off camera flash technique is superb and he did restore my faith in using TTL. Much can be said about a man who has a $56,000 option on his price list. He recently equalled his top highest grossing wedding at over $250,000 from one of New York’s richest families. He is by no means a snob as some might say but when you reach the top you are often the subject of people trying to dismiss you as lucky or marrying into the right family. I have had my fair share of people trying to cut me down over the years and I have realised what upsets jealous people even more and that is greater success. His success is truly well deserved and I sincerely believe that the business of photography and it’s public perception would not be where it is today without his influence. The style that he so passionately preaches is what his demographic expects and that is why he comes across so strongly on stage. Most of us will never rub shoulders with his type of clientele. They are leaders in their respective fields and don’t want to be lead by a photographer. Most of my clientele and perhaps yours expect leadership and wait for some type of direction for a large part of the day. He does do formals but goes unnoticed for most of the day. Denis proposed electro-shock therapy and duck tape on my mouth if I ever wanted to shoot the type of weddings that are second nature to him. It is certainly something to think about.
I believe that he almost wants someone to challenge him. That is the impression I received. Reading between the lines, he was almost daring me. One day my friend, one day!
To Denis and his team, thank you for your warmth, honesty and hospitality. You don’t have to teach but I truly thank you that you do and appreciate you paving the way for future generations of photographers.

It was an emotional week in Washington as I presented my last workshop for the year. My good friends Dave and Quin from Canada joined us as our models as did Tom and Erika Munoz from Florida. Ken and Barbie, better known as Dave and Charlotte from Canada joined us as students and models. The gorgeous Evegenia from Boston joined us a model as well. It was her third workshop with me. We had an amazing group of photographers from all over the world including England, Ireland, USA and Canada. The week was filled with some amazing moments and growth my call but none more than Virginia from the UK. As a softly spoken gal with a passion for photography I asked her to keep everyone in line by screaming out my directions in the classroom. By the end of the week she was singing Karaoke and partying like it was 1999 with all of us screaming with excitement. Good times!

We managed to take in a Richard Avedon exhibition. I was hoping to see more of his fashion work but the exhibition mainly focused on political figures. It was amazing to see a huge body of his work. R.I.P. RA
After a huge day in Washington, we were ready to go back to our Hotel room when we noticed every second person wearing a Washington Capital’s Ice Hockey Jersey. It has always been a dream of mine to go to a game. Georgina, not so much but she didn’t let me down. It was the first game of the season so I didn’t fancy my chances to get tickets. What a shame, there were only 2 tickets available 6 rows from the front. Woohoo! We loved it. The atmosphere was fantastic. I have to say that I can’t think of many sports that combine as much speed, reflexes, agility and strength etc. as ice hockey.

Georgina and I had the pleasure of traveling to New Orleans for Image X
(a mini 2 day workshop for photographers) I caught up with some of my
good friends from across the US. I presented a seminar for all
attendees on Monday night and had a blast. At one stage I invited Joe
Photo up for a few posing demos and let’s just say we ending up in some
compromising positions. Video coming soon… It’s the second time I have
visited New Orleans. It kind of reminds me of Vegas with Soul. I am a
huge Jazz fan but I didn’t get a chance to take in a local band
although visiting Preservation Hall was one of the highlights of my
last trips. We were treated to a second line mardi gras style parade by
the organizers of Image X to our restaurant for a night. They sure know
